20 years “Made in Hanau” exhibition at goldsmithing house, Hanau

I am very happy to be part of the exhibition from my first collaborative workshop back in 2000 which is now, after 20 years, a real institution. The opening was really crowded and I met a lot of old colleagues, the exhibition has been put together very carefully and it’s worth going. Thanks Made in Hanau to make this happen!

I am presenting my >>Aum-lets
forged silver and gold nuggets, stamped with the sanskrit sign for AUM.

How 3D-printing Affects Design Amazing Functional Research at UdK

Yesterday I attended the semester presentation of ID5, run by my former supervisor Prof. Burkhard Schmitz who created an impressive overview of functional studies with his students. Back in 2007/2008 when I was working at my isopt porcelain project he would already preach the necessity of focusing on new possibilities to integrate function into the geometry of the designed artifact which is an important and basic insight that I pass on to my students as well.

I really hope the results of that show will be published in a book as it would be a wonderful tool to communicate the interconnectedness of material, production process and function resulting in an aesthetic that is pure and obvious.

Dessau Design Show

It was a pleasure to see the projects of my MA&MAID class “RE_Hybrids & Identity” all nicely presented on the Dessau campus amongst the main semester project “Fear” by my colleague Prof. Susanna Hertrich and the expertise posters about bionics by Prof. Dieter Raffler. In the main building of the design department a colorful and manifoldly show of 2D, 3D and 4D projects as well as some results of the design theory classes were displayed. I very much enjoyed my collaboration with the new professor for design theory in Dessau, Prof. Michael Hohl. We composed a very interesting and critical collection of texts for our class “ethics & aesthetics in design”.  I am very much looking forward to the next semester where I will teach another design theory class and substitute Prof. Katja Thoring in the 2D/3D foundation course during her research semester.

Dimensions of : Raum Conference at Bauhaus Dessau

Due to my autumn flu I unfortunately missed the yearly conference in Dessau which always takes place on the stage in the Bauhaus building. This years topic “space” was investigating our relationship with borders, nearness and distance and atmosphere of the surrounding environment to name just a few.

Expert for Decentralized Production – Baukulturatlas Deutschland 2030/2050

LBN+YTableDAZ-1I was invited by Matthias Böttger from raumtaktik to participate in the future workshop #3 at DAZ, which is an ongoing experimental research project by BMVDI and BBSR  about the possible futures of Germany in 2030 and 2050.
It was an inspiring and eye opening day with amazing input by a couple of experts from different backgrounds talking about sustainability, energy, environment, society and technology. I feel very honoured having been a participant and contributer to this exciting project and look forward to the publication of the results.
